Deyes High School, Liverpool — 600kW Commercial Solar

Manchester Renewables installed one of our largest commercial systems to date at Deyes High School in Liverpool — a 600kW solar PV array of around 1,800 panels spread across the school's roofs and canopies. The panels sit across the main school building roof, the sports hall roof and the MUGA (multi-use games area) canopies, fitted around the skylights and rooftop plant on the school's green sedum roofs.

The system runs off six 100kW inverters, each clearly labelled PV1 to PV6 and wired back to its corresponding array, so the whole installation is straightforward to monitor and maintain. We installed the system in early 2023, and it has performed reliably ever since.

Just as importantly, we look after it. Every summer holiday our team returns to Deyes High School to service the system, check its performance and head off any issues before they arise — because maintaining and looking after a system is every bit as important as installing it in the first place. A 600kW array of this scale produces a significant share of the school's electricity on-site, cutting energy bills and carbon year after year.

I'm on the roof today at Deyes High School. We did this job about three years ago and we're here today doing a bit of maintenance — making sure the system's performing as it should, because the maintenance and the follow-up is just as important as installing the systems in the first place. This is the higher main school building roof, with about 600 panels. This job is about 1,800 panels in total, with two smaller roofs. We did this at the beginning of 2023, so it's been a good few years, and the system's performing great with no issues. We still come out every summer holiday to maintain it, check it and prevent any issues. There's a canopy with about 800 panels, and a smaller roof where the rest of the panels are.
